Historically, design has evolved from crafts and artisanal work to industrial processes and standardized systems, with notable movements such as the Bauhaus shaping modern practice. The digital age has expanded design into UX, interaction design, service design, and data-driven visualization, emphasizing user experience and outcomes.

Ethical and social dimensions—such as inclusivity, accessibility, and environmental impact—are increasingly central to design practice, as is collaboration with stakeholders across disciplines and sectors.
