Treatments are carried out in dental clinics or hospitals, using local anesthesia, sedation, or general anesthesia depending on the case.

Procedures emphasize sterile technique, atraumatic tissue handling, adequate anesthesia, and careful hemostasis. Postoperative care focuses on pain management, infection prevention, wound care, and avoidance of complications such as infection, dry socket, nerve injury, or excessive bleeding. Recovery times vary by procedure and patient factors.

Scope and qualifications vary by country. Dentalsurgical knowledge supports advances in dental implants, minimally invasive techniques, and computer-assisted planning, and it is often used interchangeably with oral surgery in general practice.
