Cellulitt

Cellulitt, a term used in some languages for a condition commonly known as cellulite, refers to a cosmetic alteration of the skin that produces a dimpled, lumpy surface most often on the thighs and buttocks. It is not a medical disease and does not indicate an illness of internal organs. The condition arises from structural changes in subcutaneous fat and fibrous connective tissue.

Cellulitt occurs when fat protrudes into bands of fibrous tissue that tether the skin to deeper structures. When these septae pull on the skin at rest or during movement, and the fat layer is uneven, a dimpled or puckered appearance emerges. Hormonal factors, genetics, aging, and lifestyle can influence its severity, and cellulite is much more common in women, in whom connective tissue partitions are arranged differently than in men.

Diagnosis is clinical, based on observation of skin texture. It is not a disease and generally does not affect health, although it may affect body image for some individuals.

Treatment aims to improve appearance rather than cure cellulite. Evidence for topical creams is variable; some retinoids may show modest, short-term improvement. Energy-based devices such as radiofrequency, laser, and ultrasound have reported modest short-term benefits in small studies. Subcision and other minimally invasive procedures may help in selected cases. Liposuction alone is not recommended for cellulite. Regular exercise, weight management, and a healthy lifestyle can help reduce fat-related surface irregularities and improve skin tone, but cellulite can persist despite weight loss.
