CNCprogramvara refers to software used to plan, simulate and control computer numerical control (CNC) machines. It encompasses programs that design parts, generate toolpaths, translate those toolpaths into machine instructions, and drive CNC hardware. The term is often used to describe the broad ecosystem of tools that enable CNC machining from digital design to finished part.

A typical CNC software workflow includes several layers. Computer-aided design (CAD) software creates or import geometric models of parts. Computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software then generates toolpaths, selects cutting tools, and sets machining parameters such as feeds, speeds, depths of cut, and stock material. A post-processor converts CAM output into machine-specific G-code or other controller instructions. CNC controllers or machine-control software interpret the code and drive the machine axes, spindle, and other actuators. Simulation and verification tools allow virtual testing of toolpaths to detect collisions and errors before actual machining.

While G-code provides a general instruction set, post-processors tailor output to the geometry, kinematics, and hardware of a particular machine.
