Bottomset
Bottomset refers to a sedimentary facies associated with river-delta systems. Bottomset beds are the distal, low-energy deposits laid down in relatively deep water beyond the active delta front. They lie seaward of the delta slope and are typically characterized by very fine-grained material, such as clay and silt, often with interbedded fine sand. The beds tend to be laterally continuous and nearly horizontal, recording slow settling of suspended sediments deposited from outward-flowing river plumes.
