AutomatikAnlasser, also known as automatic motor starters, are electrical devices that automatically start and stop electric motors in response to a control signal or predefined conditions. They are used to manage motor operation in industrial installations, ensuring motors run only when required and are protected from faults.

Typically an AutomatikAnlasser combines a contactor, an overload protection device and a control circuit. The contactor switches the motor’s power supply on and off; the overload relay guards against excessive current; and the control circuit can include pushbuttons, timers, sensors or a programmable logic controller. In normal auto mode, a signal from a process, a timer, or a PLC triggers energization of the contactor, while a different signal or timer can de-energize it to stop the motor.

Common configurations include direct-on-line starters, star-delta starters, and soft starters or drive-based starters. Direct-on-line provides full-voltage starting with a high inrush current; star-delta reduces starting current by initially wiring the motor windings in star and then switching to delta after a short interval. Soft starters and variable frequency drives offer controlled ramping to minimize mechanical stress and electrical disturbance while meeting process requirements.

AutomatikAnlasser are used for pumps, fans, conveyors, and machine tools, as well as in HVAC and processing equipment. In modern automation, they are often integrated with PLCs, building management systems, and safety interlocks to implement safe start/stop sequences and interlocked operation.

Standards for motor starters emphasize protective enclosures, proper wiring and termination, short-circuit protection, and arc-flash considerations. Compliance with relevant IEC and EN standards, plus regular maintenance of contactors and overload relays, are common practices.
