These entities typically encompass a wide range of vehicle types, from passenger cars and SUVs to commercial vehicles, motorcycles, and even automotive parts manufacturers. The primary purpose of such a structure is to achieve economies of scale, leverage shared research and development, and gain a dominant market position.

The formation of autokonsernit is often a result of mergers and acquisitions, driven by intense competition and the need for significant capital investment in areas like new technologies, such as electric vehicles and autonomous driving. By consolidating brands, these companies can spread the costs of developing new platforms and powertrains across a larger sales volume. This also allows for greater bargaining power with suppliers and distributors.

Examples of prominent autokonsernit include Volkswagen Group, which owns brands like Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, Skoda, and SEAT; Stellantis, formed from the merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and PSA Group, owning Jeep, Ram, Peugeot, Citroën, and Fiat; and Toyota Motor Corporation, encompassing Toyota, Lexus, and Daihatsu. These conglomerates play a significant role in the global automotive industry, shaping production, innovation, and market trends.
