ApurímacEneMadres

ApurímacEneMadres is a social initiative focused on promoting gender equality, women's empowerment, and the protection of maternal and child health in the Apurímac region of Peru. The project was launched in 2018 as part of a broader effort to address systemic inequalities affecting rural and indigenous communities in the Andes.

The name "ApurímacEneMadres" combines the name of the region, Apurímac, with the Quechua phrase *"ene madres,"* which translates to "our mothers" in Spanish, emphasizing the project’s dedication to maternal well-being. The initiative works closely with local organizations, government agencies, and community leaders to implement programs that improve access to healthcare, education, and economic opportunities for women and girls.

Key activities of ApurímacEneMadres include maternal health education, prenatal and postnatal care support, training in reproductive rights, and advocacy for policies that reduce maternal mortality. The project also promotes women’s leadership through workshops on entrepreneurship, agricultural innovation, and sustainable livelihoods, particularly in regions where traditional gender roles limit women’s participation in decision-making.

Funded by international organizations, Peruvian NGOs, and local partnerships, ApurímacEneMadres operates through a participatory approach, ensuring that community feedback shapes program development. Its work aligns with broader global goals, such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 5 (Gender Equality).

While the initiative has made progress in raising awareness and improving health outcomes in Apurímac, challenges such as limited infrastructure, cultural barriers, and economic constraints persist. Ongoing collaboration between stakeholders remains essential to sustain its impact and expand its reach beyond the region.
