Animatører

Animatører is the plural form of animatør, a professional who creates animation for media and live performance in Danish and Norwegian contexts. Animatører design, construct, and refine moving images and sequences that bring characters and stories to life. They work across film and television, advertising, theatre, museums, theme parks, and digital media, employing techniques ranging from traditional cel drawing and stop-motion to 2D and 3D computer animation and motion graphics.

Typical duties include concept development and storyboarding, modelling and texturing of assets, rigging and animation of characters, lighting and rendering, and post-production compositing. They collaborate with directors, writers, editors, sound designers, and other specialists. Some animatører specialize in areas such as character animation, visual effects, or technical direction; others focus on animation for games or interactive media.

Education and training commonly involve a bachelor’s degree or diploma in animation, digital media, or a related field, plus a strong portfolio or reel. Proficiency with software such as Blender, Maya, 3ds Max, Toon Boom Harmony, and After Effects is typical, as is familiarity with pipelines and version control. Ongoing learning is important due to evolving tools and workflows.

The term and professional scope vary by country, and in some markets animatører may be grouped with animators or visual effects artists. The field is generally project-based, with opportunities for freelance work as well as employment in studios and agencies.
