Analgetiká

Analgetiká, commonly known as painkillers, are a class of drugs used to relieve pain. They work by interfering with pain signals in the body. There are various types of analgetiká, broadly categorized into non-opioid and opioid analgesics.

Non-opioid analgetiká, such as paracetamol (acetaminophen) and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen and aspirin, are widely available and used for mild to moderate pain. NSAIDs also possess anti-inflammatory and antipyretic (fever-reducing) properties. They typically act by inhibiting enzymes involved in the production of prostaglandins, which are chemicals that contribute to pain, inflammation, and fever.

Opioid analgetiká, such as morphine, codeine, and oxycodone, are derived from opium or are synthetically produced. They are generally more potent and are prescribed for moderate to severe pain, often associated with surgery or serious injuries. Opioids work by binding to opioid receptors in the brain and spinal cord, blocking the transmission of pain signals and altering the perception of pain. Due to their potential for addiction and side effects, opioids are usually used under strict medical supervision.

The choice of analgetikum depends on the type and severity of pain, as well as individual patient factors. It is important to use analgetiká as directed by a healthcare professional to ensure efficacy and minimize risks. Side effects can vary depending on the specific drug and dosage, and may include gastrointestinal issues, drowsiness, or respiratory depression in the case of opioids.
