AZ63
AZ63 is a magnesium-based alloy in the AZ family, commonly used for die casting and, in some cases, wrought applications. It is described in industry references as a Mg-6Al-3Zn-type composition, with magnesium as the base metal and aluminum and zinc as the major alloying elements. Actual compositions can vary by producer and temper, but AZ63 generally contains around 6–7% aluminum and 3–4% zinc, with small additions of elements such as manganese or rare-earth refiners to improve grain structure and strength.
Processing and fabrication methods for AZ63 include high-volume die casting, which takes advantage of the alloy’s
Properties and performance of AZ63 are largely determined by its temper and processing. As with other magnesium
Applications for AZ63 include automotive components, transmission and engine housings, precision die-cast parts, and other lightweight
