Wevervogels, also known as weaver birds, are a family of small passerine birds belonging to the family Ploceidae. They are primarily found in Africa and Asia, with a few species extending into the Australasian region. Wevervogels are renowned for their elaborate and intricately woven nests, which are typically built by the males. These nests are often constructed from grasses, reeds, and other plant materials, and can feature a variety of architectural styles, including retort-shaped nests with long hanging entrances, or spherical nests suspended from branches.

The diet of wevervogels consists mainly of seeds, supplemented by insects and other small invertebrates. They are often seen foraging in flocks, which can sometimes be very large, especially outside the breeding season. Social behavior varies among species, with some being monogamous while others are polygamous. The striking plumage of many male wevervogels, particularly during the breeding season when they develop bright yellow, red, or black coloration, plays a significant role in courtship displays. Females are generally more subdued in color, often exhibiting olive-brown or greyish tones. Their taxonomic classification within the order Passeriformes places them among other seed-eating birds.
