Väärisvormimist, often translated as precious molding or precious casting, is a metal casting process used to create highly detailed and intricate metal parts, typically from non-ferrous metals like gold, silver, platinum, and other precious alloys. It is a specialized form of investment casting, known for its ability to achieve extremely fine detail and smooth surface finishes, making it ideal for applications where aesthetics and precision are paramount.

The process begins with the creation of a wax model of the desired object. This wax model is then coated with a ceramic slurry, layer by layer, building up a ceramic shell around the wax. Once the ceramic shell has hardened, it is heated in a furnace, causing the wax to melt and drain out, leaving a hollow cavity in the shape of the original wax model. This hollow shell is then preheated, and molten precious metal is poured into it. After the metal cools and solidifies, the ceramic shell is broken away, revealing the cast metal object.

Väärisvormimist is widely used in the jewelry industry for crafting intricate rings, pendants, earrings, and other decorative items. It is also employed in the creation of specialized components for high-end watches, dental prosthetics, and even in some artistic and sculptural applications. The primary advantage of this method is its capacity to reproduce complex designs and fine textures with remarkable accuracy, often eliminating the need for extensive post-casting finishing work. However, it is a relatively time-consuming and costly process due to the materials and labor involved.
