Substrateframed is a term used in design, engineering, and conservation to describe an approach in which a frame provides structural support, alignment, or enclosure for a substrate. The substrate is the underlying material or platform, such as a circuit-board base, a wood or composite panel, glass, canvas, ceramic, or a printed sheet. The frame can be external, surrounding the perimeter, or internal, attached within the edges or beneath the surface. Interfaces between frame and substrate are typically realized with mechanical fasteners, adhesives, clamps, or pressure-fitting joints, and may include isolation layers to accommodate differences in stiffness or thermal expansion.

Substrateframed constructions aim to improve dimensional stability, protect delicate layers, simplify handling, and facilitate assembly or transport. In the arts, canvases or panels may be framed in a way that preserves surface integrity while enabling mounting and display. In construction and architectural panels, substrateframed assemblies can combine the functional base with a protective or decorative frame to manage tolerances during fabrication.

Variations include frames that are integral to the substrate, frames that sit on one side, and frames paired with flexible interlayers to accommodate thermal or moisture-related movement.
