Stevigheidsgraad, literally translated as “hardness grade” or “rigidity grade,” is a term commonly applied in Dutch engineering, material science, and architectural contexts to classify the stiffness or resistance to bending and deformation of various materials. The concept is analogous to modulus of rigidity in mechanics, but it is used more as a practical classification system rather than a precise physical measurement.

In practice, stevigheidsgraad may refer to the resistance of paper, cardboard, or thin films; to the firmness of textiles such as draperies, upholstery, and technical fabrics; or to the bending resistance of wood, composites, and molded plastics. Industries such as publishing, textiles, construction, and packaging use it to specify quality levels or to select suitable materials for particular applications. For example, a high stevigheidsgraad in drapery fabric means the material will hold a shape and resist draping, which is desirable for certain interior design styles.

The grades are usually determined by standardized tests that measure bending over a defined span, free‑hand flex, or compressive force until a set deformation occurs.
