Depending on implementation choices, a ssiuid may function as the primary DID for a subject or as a separate alias or reference that resolves to a subject’s DID and associated metadata.

Relation to standards and implementations: there is no dedicated standard named “ssiuid” as of now. The concept aligns with SSI fundamentals, including DIDs, DID Methods, DID Documents, and Verifiable Credentials. Some systems may treat the DID itself as the ssiuid, while others may introduce an underlying subject identifier that callers use to locate the subject’s DID and credential set.

Limitations and considerations include governance, interoperability, and privacy design. Properly implemented, a ssiuid supports portable, user-centric identity while enabling selective disclosure and minimized data leakage.
