serigrafiaan
Serigrafiaan refers to a person who practices serigraphy, the printmaking technique commonly called silkscreen printing. In serigraphy, a stencil is applied to a porous screen (traditionally silk, but now typically polyester or other synthetic mesh) stretched over a frame. Ink is pressed through the open areas of the stencil onto a substrate such as paper, fabric, or plastic, using a squeegee. Multiple colors are achieved by using separate screens and careful alignment (registration). The method allows for high-volume production and vivid, flat color areas, making it popular for posters, commercial graphics, and contemporary art.
The practice has roots in early 20th-century developments in both commercial printing and fine art. In the
Training for a serigrafiaan ranges from self-directed learning to formal education in printmaking or graphic arts.
