The Finnish Police (Poliisi) operates most of its fleet within the national Police Command (Poliisi) which standardises procurement, maintenance and training to ensure operational readiness and interoperability.

Historically, Finnish police motorised units expanded rapidly after the 1960s, replacing horse and bicycle patrols with modern sedans and sport utility vehicles. Since 2010 the fleet has become increasingly environmentally conscious, incorporating hybrid and fully electric models produced by domestic manufacturers such as Valmet Automotive. The standard patrol car chassis is often a Volvo V70 or a Skoda Octavia for its reliability and cost-effectiveness, whereas the high‑performance Police Patrol Vehicle (PPV) models are based on the Subaru Impreza WRX to provide superior off‑road capabilities. In addition, the police fleet includes electric motorcycles (such as the Yamaha NMAX EV) for urban patrols.

Operational doctrine divides vehicles into several categories. Clear‑road vehicles – blue‑lit police cars equipped with blue lights and sirens – handle routine patrol, traffic enforcement and emergency response. Armed response units transport small arms and tactical gear, often in armored vans such as the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Variant. Support vehicles include tow trucks, rescue trailers and mobile command centres. The police also maintain specialist fleet items, such as high‑speed police vans (HSPV) for SWAT teams, bicycle patrol kits, and inflatable boats for river and lake operations.

Maintenance of the fleet follows strict SOPs. Regular driver training covers defensive driving, emergency response and vehicle configuration. Fleet management utilises fleet telematics to monitor vehicle performance, location and predictive maintenance schedules. These measures help reducing downtime, ensuring that the Finnish Police can respond swiftly and safely to incidents across the country.
