Organisering refers to the process of creating and structuring an organized entity—such as a company, association, public agency, or movement—and to the resulting arrangement itself. It involves defining objectives, allocating resources, specifying roles and responsibilities, and establishing governance and procedures that allow people to work together toward common goals. In Norwegian and Danish usage, organisering often denotes both the act of organizing and the structure that results from it.

Key elements of organisering include structure, governance, culture, and processes. It encompasses organizational design, division of labor, decision rights, coordination mechanisms, and communication channels. It also covers the distinction between formal organizations, with stated rules and hierarchies, and informal networks that emerge through social interaction.

The field draws on management, sociology, political science, and anthropology. Common approaches to organisering involve choosing an organizational design (functional, divisional, matrix, or newer forms such as networked or holacratic structures), planning and implementing change, and aligning processes with strategy. Tools such as process mapping, job design, governance frameworks, and change management methods are often used.

Contexts vary widely. In business, organisering aims to improve efficiency, accountability, and adaptability. In civil society and politics, it supports mobilization, advocacy, and service delivery. In unions or associations, organizing often means building membership, resources, and collective bargaining capacity.

Outcomes depend on leadership, culture, stakeholder engagement, and clear communication. Common challenges include resistance to change, misaligned incentives, information bottlenecks, and fragmentation across units. When well managed, organisering can create clarity, coherence, and sustainable performance.
