Konepellin is the hinged cover at the front of a motor vehicle that encloses the engine compartment. In Finnish, konepellin is the genitive form of konepelti. The hood, as it is commonly called, protects the engine and related components from debris, weather, and noise, while providing access for maintenance and inspection. It also influences a vehicle’s aerodynamics and overall appearance and usually bears the car’s emblem or branding.
