Koncentratfoder, or concentrate feed, is a type of animal feed with high energy and/or protein content and relatively low fiber. It is intended to supplement roughage such as hay or silage, providing nutrients that may be insufficient from forage alone. The aim is to improve feed efficiency and production (growth, milk, or eggs) while supporting digestive health.

Typical concentrates are divided into energy concentrates (cereal grains such as corn, barley, wheat; fats and oils), protein concentrates (soybean meal, canola/rapeseed meal, peas, lupins, sunflower meal), and mineral–vitamin concentrates (premixes). Some products are complete feeds, while others are complementary to forage.

Production and processing: Concentrates are produced in feed mills by cleaning, grinding or crushing, and often pelleting or extrusion to increase density and ease handling. Premixes for minerals and vitamins are commonly added. Proper storage in a dry, pest-free environment is essential to prevent spoilage.

Nutritional considerations: Formulations balance energy and protein to meet species- and production-stage needs. In ruminants, too much starch without sufficient fiber can disrupt rumen function; in monogastrics, amino acid balance is important. Regular feed analysis helps ensure correct inclusion rates.

Safety and regulation: Quality control, mycotoxin testing, and compliance with feed-safety standards are typical requirements. Labeling, traceability, and quality assurance programs help manage risk.

Use and impact: Concentrate feeds are common in dairy and beef cattle, pigs, and poultry to achieve production targets. Availability and price influence their use, and concentrates are most effective when combined with good forage management and ration planning.
