Kompyuta is a programmable electronic device that accepts data as input, processes it according to a set of instructions, stores information, and produces output. It operates under the control of software and can perform a wide range of tasks, from simple calculations to complex data analysis and multimedia processing.

A typical kompyuta consists of hardware such as a central processing unit (CPU), memory (RAM), storage (hard drive or solid-state drive), and input/output interfaces. It runs software that includes an operating system to manage resources and applications for specific tasks. Most kompyuta use a stored-program architecture, often called the Von Neumann model, where instructions and data reside in memory for the CPU to fetch, decode, and execute. Data is represented in binary form, using sequences of 0s and 1s.

There are multiple types: personal kompyuta (desktops and laptops) used by individuals; mobile devices like smartphones and tablets; servers that provide services over a network; and embedded kompyuta integrated into other products such as appliances, vehicles, and industrial equipment.

The development of kompyuta began with early calculating devices and evolved through vacuum tubes, transistors, and integrated circuits. The invention of microprocessors in the 1970s enabled affordable personal kompyuta, which expanded rapidly into homes and workplaces. Networks and the Internet broadened computer use dramatically in the late 20th and early 21st centuries.

Kompyuta support communication, education, science, business, and entertainment. They increase productivity and enable new capabilities but also raise concerns about privacy, cybersecurity, digital literacy, and energy consumption. The field continues to evolve with advances in parallel processing, artificial intelligence, and ubiquitous computing.
