Kollast is a hypothetical material frequently discussed in speculative materials science and science fiction. It is described as a quasi-two-dimensional lattice with a porous, honeycomb-like geometry formed by interlinked columns or rods. The term kollast is a coined neologism and does not correspond to any established chemical element or widely recognized material.

In theoretical accounts, kollast is said to combine high specific strength with low density, and to exhibit anisotropic mechanical properties that can be tuned by lattice design. It is often attributed high in-plane thermal conductivity and variable electronic behavior, ranging from insulating to semiconducting depending on lattice substitution or functionalization. The porous structure is cited as enabling energy absorption, filtration, and catalytic surfaces in adapted forms.

No experimental realization is currently reported. In fictional or thought-experiment contexts, suggested routes to kollast include bottom-up self-assembly of molecular precursors on templated substrates, modular deposition of lattice units, or polymer-inorganic hybrids that form extended networks. Stability and synthesis challenges are commonly noted, including potential oxidation, structural fatigue, and scalability concerns.

Potential applications are speculative and include lightweight structural components for aerospace or automotive uses, thermal management in compact electronics, flexible sensors, and energy storage electrodes. The concept serves as a case study in lattice design and the theoretical limits of 2D materials.
