Informatyka, a term used in Polish to denote the field of study and practice concerned with information processing, computation, software development, and the design and use of information systems, encompasses both theoretical foundations and practical applications. In phrases, the form informatyki is used in the possessive and genitive cases, but the discipline is commonly referred to simply as informatyka.

The scope of informatyka includes a broad range of subfields. Theoretical informatics studies the limits of computation, algorithms, and complexity. Software engineering focuses on the design, development, testing, and maintenance of software systems. Computer systems and networks address hardware architectures, operating systems, distributed computing, and communication. Databases and data management cover data storage, retrieval, and analytics. Human–computer interaction, artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, and cybersecurity represent modern application areas, while embedded systems deal with software and hardware in integrated devices. Interdisciplinary work with mathematics, physics, engineering, and cognitive science is common.

Education and profession in informatyka typically lead to degrees in computer science or informatyka, preparing graduates for roles such as software developer, systems analyst, data scientist, IT consultant, network administrator, and research engineer. The discipline is central to modern industry, science, education, and public administration, and it continues to evolve with new technologies and ethical considerations.
