henkiolento
Henkiolento is a Finnish term for a spirit being—a non-material or semi-material entity believed to inhabit a person, place, or object. The compound noun combines henki (spirit) and olento (creature). In traditional Finnish folklore, henkiolennot are one category among various supernatural beings, closely related to, but distinct from, haltiat (guardian spirits connected to places) and luonnonhenget (nature spirits). They can be benevolent or neutral, and are often described as invisible, elusive, or able to assume forms. Their agency is commonly linked to specific locations, such as forests, lakes, standing stones, or ancestral sites, and they may influence weather, fertility, or fortunes, especially in rural communities.
Beliefs about henkiolento vary by region and era. Some assign to them the status of ancestral souls
In modern times, the term appears in Finnish fantasy literature, role-playing games, and neopagan or revivalist
