Draagunits (Dutch for carrying units) is a term used in logistics and related fields to denote load-carrying structures that package goods into a single, manageable unit for handling, storage, and transport. The concept focuses on creating standardized units that can be moved by common material-handling equipment and integrated into automated systems, improving efficiency and safety in the supply chain.

Draagunits take many forms. The most familiar are pallets, but they also include skids, crates, shipping containers, trays, and racks. In air freight, the principle is extended by unit load devices (ULDs), which are specially designed pallets and containers for aircraft. Collectively, draagunits are chosen to maximize stability, protect contents, and facilitate stacking and transfer.

Design and construction considerations include external dimensions, load capacity, and stackability, as well as compatibility with handling equipment such as forklifts and conveyors. Materials vary and may include wood, plastic, or metal, with attention to durability, moisture resistance, and hygiene. Standardization promotes interchangeability; common footprints like the EUR-pallet (800 by 1200 mm) are widely used in Europe, while other regions have their own equivalents. Air cargo standards for ULDs address weight, securing methods, and aircraft-specific constraints.

Applications span the entire supply chain, from warehousing and distribution to manufacturing and aviation. The unit-load concept reduces handling steps, supports automation, optimizes space, and enhances traceability and safety across operations.
