Displayvarianten are the different configurations of a display panel offered within a single product family. They enable manufacturers to tailor a display to specific applications by varying attributes such as diagonal size, resolution, panel technology, backlighting, touch capability, coatings, and connector interfaces. The term is common in German and Dutch technical documentation and is often translated as panel variants or configuration variants in English.

Variants cover both the electronic technology (for example LCD with LED backlight, OLED, e-ink) and the mechanical form factor (size, aspect ratio, curvature, foldability) as well as peripheral features (touch input, protective glass, anti-glare coating). They may also differ in environmental specifications such as operating temperature, humidity range, and ruggedization.

Key differentiating specifications include display technology (TN, IPS, VA, OLED), size and aspect ratio, resolution, brightness and contrast, color gamut, response time, refresh rate, viewing angles, backlight type, power consumption, and interface standards (HDMI, DisplayPort, LVDS or eDP). Other factors are touch capability, cover lens, and driver electronics compatibility, plus availability of calibration data and color management.

In procurement and product management, displayvarianten are identified by variant codes or model numbers. Selecting a variant involves balancing performance, cost, supply risk, compatibility with the host device, and maintenance considerations such as spare parts and color calibration. This approach helps address diverse use cases across consumer devices, industrial displays, automotive dashboards, and embedded systems.
