Afdekkap is a protective and finishing component used to seal or cover an opening, end, or edge in mechanical and architectural assemblies. It helps prevent dirt, moisture, and debris from entering, reduces the risk of injury by covering sharp edges, and improves the appearance of a join or profile.

There are various forms of afdekkappen, including end caps for tubes or profile channels; snap-on or push-in caps; screw-on caps for threaded openings; and decorative caps. They are made from plastics such as nylon, polypropylene, and ABS; rubber; or metals like aluminum and stainless steel. Colors and finishes range from black and white to metallics, with matte and glossy options.

Applications include aluminium extrusion systems in construction and furniture, end caps for PVC and metal pipes, electrical conduits, cable management, stair rails, and automotive trim. Installation methods depend on the type: plastic end caps are often press-fit or snap-fit, screw-on caps are used for threaded openings, and some decorative or low-profile caps use adhesive backing.

In many cases, an afdekkap is designed to fit a specific profile or tube diameter and is specified by the manufacturer. There is no universal standard for all afdekkappen; dimensions are given in millimeters and tailored to particular systems. Outdoor variants may be UV-stabilized plastics or metal with protective coatings to resist weathering.
