The name comes from the Finnish words "yhdistelmä," meaning combination or composite, and "kaapissa," which means cable. These cables are engineered to provide power transmission, signal distribution, and protective shielding within a single sheathing, making them particularly useful in environments where space or weight constraints are critical.

A typical yhdistelmäkaapissa consists of three main components. First are the insulated conductors, which may be copper or aluminium and are designed to carry either low- or high-voltage electrical currents. These standards specify parameters like voltage rating, temperature tolerance, ingress protection, and mechanical strengths. The result is a versatile, reliable cable solution that simplifies installation, reduces cable clutter, and improves overall system performance.
