Willendheid

Willendheid is a term originating from Dutch, referring to the measure of a material’s tendency to deform or bend under applied forces, particularly in the context of materials science and structural engineering. It is commonly associated with the concept of flexibility or pliability, indicating how a material responds to stress without fracturing.

In practical applications, willendheid is an important property in the design and selection of materials for construction, manufacturing, and product development. Materials with high willendheid can absorb and dissipate energy, making them suitable for applications that require resilience and adaptability, such as in flexible joints, textiles, and bio-inspired structures.

The concept is related to, but distinct from, elasticity and ductility.
