Vbånd
Vbånd, or V-band, is a term used in mechanical engineering to describe a type of circular clamp that joins two flanged pipe or tube ends with a V-shaped inner profile. The clamp generally consists of a metal band with a raised inner bead that hooks into a complementary groove on the flange. When the clamp is tightened, the two flanges are drawn together to form a tight seal, distributing clamping force evenly around the circumference. V-bånd clamps are valued for high clamping strength, relatively easy installation and removal, and good performance under high temperatures and pressures. They are commonly used in automotive exhaust systems, turbocharger piping, and some aerospace and industrial applications, where a compact, gasket-assisted or gasketless seal is desirable.
In Scandinavian languages, the term vbånd is related to the broader word bånd, meaning band or ribbon.
