Tverrfunktionelt is a term used in Nordic languages, notably Norwegian and Danish, to describe approaches, teams, or processes that span multiple functional areas within an organization. It denotes collaboration across departments such as product development, engineering, design, marketing, sales, finance, and operations, with the aim of achieving shared outcomes. In English, the closest equivalent is cross-functional.

The concept is commonly applied in contexts where cooperation across functions is essential to deliver integrated solutions, such as product development, project management, and organizational design. A tverrfunktionell approach typically involves assembling teams with members from different functions who work toward common goals, often under a single product owner or project manager and with agreed-upon roles and responsibilities.

Implementation often relies on governance mechanisms that facilitate coordination across functions. This can include clear objectives, decision rights, and communication protocols, as well as tools like RACI matrices, joint roadmaps, and shared performance indicators.
