Tandkonstruktion

Tandkonstruktion is a term used in dentistry to describe the design, fabrication, and placement of artificial restorations and replacements for teeth. It encompasses a range of prosthetic solutions that restore chewing function, speech, and aesthetics in the dental arches. Tandkonstruktion can involve single-tooth restorations as well as bridges, full- and partial-arch rehabilitations, and implant-supported prostheses.

Common forms include crowns, which are full-coverage restorations cemented onto prepared teeth; bridges, which replace one or more missing teeth by anchoring to adjacent teeth or implants; dentures, which are removable prostheses for either the full arch or multiple missing teeth; and implants with crowns or bridges on top. Inlays and onlays provide indirect restorations for damaged cusps or bite surfaces, while veneers are thin shells bonded to the front of teeth for aesthetic improvement. Implant technology has expanded options for replacement, often enabling implant-supported crowns, bridges, or overdentures.

The typical clinical workflow involves assessment and diagnosis, imaging and impressions or digital scans, treatment planning, tooth preparation when needed, laboratory fabrication, try-in and adjustment, and final placement either cemented or screw-retained. Advances in materials and techniques include all-ceramic systems (for example, zirconia and lithium disilicate), metal-ceramic options, composites, CAD/CAM fabrication, and digital workflows.

Materials range from ceramics and metal alloys to resin composites, selected for strength, aesthetics, and biocompatibility. Longevity and success depend on proper planning, occlusal management, periodontal health, material choice, and patient maintenance. Professionals typically include prosthodontists, general dentists, and dental technicians, who may collaborate with surgeons for implant-based restorations.
