Sugárkezeléses

Sugárkezeléses refers to the use of radiation, typically in the form of ionizing radiation, for therapeutic purposes. This medical treatment is commonly employed in the management of cancer, where high-energy rays are directed at cancerous cells to damage their DNA and inhibit their growth or cause their death. Different types of radiation, such as X-rays, gamma rays, and particle beams, can be utilized depending on the specific cancer and its location.

There are two primary methods of administering radiation therapy. External beam radiation therapy involves delivering radiation from a machine outside the body. This is a non-invasive procedure where the patient lies on a table, and a radiation oncology team precisely targets the tumor. The treatment is usually delivered over several weeks, with sessions typically lasting a few minutes each day.

The second method is internal radiation therapy, also known as brachytherapy. In this approach, a radioactive source is placed directly inside or very close to the tumor. This can involve temporarily or permanently implanting radioactive seeds, ribbons, or capsules within the body. Internal radiation therapy allows for a high dose of radiation to be delivered directly to the cancer cells while minimizing exposure to surrounding healthy tissues.

Sugárkezeléses can be used alone or in combination with other cancer treatments like surgery, chemotherapy, or immunotherapy. Its effectiveness depends on factors such as the type and stage of cancer, the patient's overall health, and the specific radiation protocol used. While it is a powerful tool in medicine, like any treatment, it can have side effects, which are generally localized to the area being treated and vary in severity.
