Succies

Succies is a colloquial term used to refer to succulent plants. Succulents are a diverse group of plants known for their ability to store water in their leaves, stems, or roots, which allows them to survive in arid conditions. This water-storing adaptation gives them a characteristic fleshy or swollen appearance. The term "succulent" comes from the Latin word "sucus," meaning juice or sap.

There are thousands of succulent species belonging to numerous plant families, including Crassulaceae (e.g., Echeveria, Sedum), Cactaceae (cacti), and Aizoaceae (e.g., Lithops). They are found naturally on every continent except Antarctica. While often associated with deserts, succulents also thrive in other environments, such as coastal regions, high-altitude mountains, and even tropical forests, where they may grow as epiphytes.

Succies are popular as houseplants due to their low maintenance requirements and varied aesthetics. Their unique shapes, textures, and colors make them attractive additions to gardens, patios, and indoor spaces. Many species are also easy to propagate, further contributing to their widespread cultivation. Common examples include aloes, sempervivums, and various types of cacti. Their water-storing capabilities make them relatively drought-tolerant, but they still require specific care regarding watering and sunlight to flourish.
