Pests such as spider mites, scale, and mealybugs are common in indoor settings. Wipe leaves, rinse the plant, or treat with horticultural oil or insecticidal soap as needed. Diseases include root rot from overwatering. Some houseplants are toxic to pets or people; check plant labels and place risky species out of reach.

Benefits of houseplants include aesthetic appeal, stress reduction, and subtle improvements in indoor air and humidity. Success depends on choosing appropriate species for the lighting and climate, regular observation, and adapting care to plant and environment.
