Snabblagret

Snabblagret, literally “the fast court” in Swedish, is a term used in public debate to describe a proposed expedited judicial process intended to shorten handling times for certain civil, administrative, or commercial cases. It is not an official court or jurisdiction within the Swedish judiciary; as of 2024 there is no nationwide body formally named 'snabblagret.'

The term arises in policy discussions and media coverage about court reform and efficiency, and it is sometimes used to envision specialized fast-track divisions within existing courts, or a streamlined procedural framework supported by digital tools and standardized guidelines.

Common proposals include fixed time limits for each stage of a case, simple, standardized pleadings, triage to identify low-complexity matters, digital hearings, and extended court hours. It could target cases with straightforward facts or limited monetary value, such as small claims or certain administrative disputes.

Supporters argue it could reduce backlogs, lower costs, and improve access to justice. Critics warn of risks to due process, equality before the law, and regional disparities if implementation favors well-resourced courts or respondents with better access to technology.

In practice, Swedish reform discussions address modernization and efficiency more broadly, including digitalization of case management, online filing, and electronic communication, rather than establishing a single nationwide 'snabblagret.'
