It is commonly applied to wearable sensors, medical patches, and epidermal electronics designed to monitor health metrics or deliver therapies while remaining unobtrusive.

Key design features of skinconformant systems include low stiffness (often using soft elastomers or hydrogels), thin and lightweight form factors, high stretchability, and biocompatibility. Effective conformability also relies on adhesion strategies that are gentle on the skin, breathable encapsulation to manage moisture, and surface microstructures that reduce peeling forces.
