Sentralenheter

Sentralenheter is a generic Norwegian term used to describe central components within a larger system that coordinate, control, or process information from other parts of the system. The word combines sentral meaning central and enhet meaning unit, and the plural form is used when several such central components exist in a system. The term is commonly found across technical disciplines and is intentionally broad to cover hardware, software, and combined solutions.

In information technology and computing, a sentralenhet often denotes the central processing unit, central server, or main controller that executes software, manages data, and orchestrates tasks for subordinate units. In distributed systems, a central unit may coordinate activities, collect data, authenticate users, and provide services to client devices.

In automation, building management, and industrial control, sentralenheter act as hubs that aggregate input from sensors and issue commands to actuators.
