Scrumtavler

Scrumtavler, or Scrum board, is a visual management tool used within the Scrum framework to track work during a sprint. It provides a shared, at-a-glance view of the items that make up the sprint, their current status, and progress, helping to promote transparency and collaboration among the team and stakeholders.

A typical Scrum board represents workflow stages as columns, such as To Do, In Progress, and Done. Additional columns may include Blocked, In Review, or Testing, depending on team practices. Each work item, often a user story or task, is represented by a card that may include an identifier, short description, assignee, estimate, and priority. Items flow from the product backlog into the sprint backlog and are moved across the board as work progresses. The board is commonly updated daily, especially during the daily stand-up, and the Definition of Done is reflected in the completion of items in the Done column.

Boards can be physical, using a wall and sticky notes, or digital, implemented in tools such as Jira, Trello, Azure DevOps, or other project management platforms. Digital boards offer features like real-time updates, filters, and integration with other Scrum artifacts and workflows, which can be especially beneficial for distributed teams.

Scrumtavler is one of the core practices associated with Scrum, complementing other ceremonies such as sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives. While it supports transparency and focus, effective use requires discipline to keep the board current and to avoid information overload.
