Boards

A board is a flat, rigid, planar object that serves as a surface for support, mounting, construction, or information. Boards are made from various materials including wood, metal, plastic, and composites, and come in a wide range of sizes and thicknesses.

In construction and manufacturing, boards include wooden planks, particleboard, medium-density fiberboard (MDF), plywood, and fiberboard. They are used for flooring, cabinetry, paneling, and substructures, with properties such as strength, rigidity, and machinability.

In electronics, a board refers to a circuit board or printed circuit board (PCB), a substrate on which conductive traces connect components. Computers use motherboards and various expansion boards to route power and signals.

Informational and writing boards include bulletin boards, whiteboards, chalkboards, and cork boards, used for notices, presentations, or planning. These boards can be magnetic, writable, or tackable, and may be mounted on walls or stands.

In entertainment and sport, boards are used for rides and riding surfaces such as surfboards, snowboards, and skateboards, as well as board games and game boards that provide the grid or track for play.

In governance and management, a board refers to a group of individuals elected to oversee an organization, typically a board of directors or trustees, responsible for strategic direction, oversight, and fiduciary duties.
