Postimplant is a term used in medicine and related fields to describe the period after the implantation of a device, tissue, or construct into the body. It encompasses the immediate postoperative phase through long-term surveillance of the implanted element and its interaction with host tissues. The concept is applied across diverse domains, including dental implants, orthopedic implants, ocular implants, neural interfaces, and other surgically implanted devices.

In dental implantology, the postimplant period focuses on healing of peri-implant tissues and the process of osseointegration between the implant surface and bone. Outcomes depend on implant design, surface properties, loading protocols, and patient factors such as smoking, diabetes, or bone quality. Early stability, typically assessed in the weeks after placement, guides subsequent loading decisions and restoration.

In orthopedics, postimplant care aims to achieve stable fixation and biological integration at the bone-implant interface. Protection from excessive mechanical stress, infection prevention, and monitoring for loosening or wear are central concerns. Long-term success is influenced by implant material, design, and the mechanical environment.
