Ohjeldus

Ohjeldus refers to the act of guiding, steering, or regulating the behavior of a system, device, or process to reach a desired state. The concept spans engineering, automation, governance, and management, and covers both manual guidance and automatic control. The term derives from the Estonian verb ohjeldama, meaning to steer or guide.

In engineering and automation, ohjeldus is realized through control systems that sense the current state, compare it with a target value, and apply an adjustment via actuators. Key elements include sensors, a controller, and actuators. Control can be implemented in various forms, from simple on-off control to continuous regulation. When the system uses feedback to correct errors, it is called feedback or closed-loop control; without feedback, adjustments are made only based on the initial plan, known as open-loop control.
