Netwerkmodules

A netwerkmodule, often referred to as a network module or network interface module, is a hardware component designed to provide network connectivity to a device or system. These modules typically contain the necessary circuitry and physical connectors to interface with a specific type of network. Common examples include Ethernet modules for wired local area networks (LANs), Wi-Fi modules for wireless LANs, and cellular modules for mobile network access.

The primary function of a netwerkmodule is to translate data between the internal bus of a device and the protocols used by the external network. This involves encoding and decoding signals, managing data transmission and reception, and often handling network addressing and error detection. The specific capabilities and complexity of a netwerkmodule vary greatly depending on the network technology it supports. For instance, a simple Ethernet module might handle basic packet framing and transmission, while a more advanced module could incorporate features like network security protocols or Quality of Service (QoS) management.

Netwerkmodules can be integrated directly onto a motherboard as a chipset or be a separate, often removable, component. This modularity allows for flexibility in device design, enabling manufacturers to offer different network options or upgrade network capabilities without redesigning the entire product.
