Moottorinohjaus translates from Finnish to English as "engine control". In the context of automotive engineering and technology, moottorinohjaus refers to the system responsible for managing and optimizing the operation of an internal combustion engine. This system, often referred to as the Engine Control Unit (ECU) or Engine Control Module (ECM), is a sophisticated computer that receives data from various sensors throughout the engine and vehicle.

These sensors monitor parameters such as engine speed, coolant temperature, manifold absolute pressure, throttle position, oxygen levels in the exhaust, and fuel pressure. Based on this real-time data and pre-programmed algorithms, the moottorinohjaus system makes critical decisions.
