Monolitne

Monolitne is a term that can refer to several different concepts, primarily in geology and architecture, and less commonly in computer science. In geology, a monolith is a large single upright block of stone, especially one shaped into or serving as a pillar or monument. Examples include Uluru in Australia, often referred to as Ayers Rock, and the Devils Tower in Wyoming, USA. These formations are typically the result of erosion, where surrounding softer rock has worn away, leaving a resistant core exposed. They can also be created by volcanic activity or tectonic uplift.

In architecture and sculpture, a monolith is a single piece of stone that has been quarried and shaped into a monument or structure. Ancient civilizations often utilized monoliths for temples, obelisks, and statues. The obelisks of ancient Egypt, such as Cleopatra's Needle, are classic examples of architectural monoliths, painstakingly carved from single pieces of granite. Stonehenge, while composed of many stones, features several large sarsen stones that are monoliths in their own right.

In the context of computer science, a monolithic architecture refers to a software development approach where an application is built as a single, indivisible unit. All components of the application, such as the user interface, business logic, and data access layer, are tightly coupled and run as a single process. This contrasts with microservices architectures, where an application is composed of small, independent, and loosely coupled services. While monolithic architectures can be simpler to develop and deploy initially, they can become challenging to scale and maintain as the application grows in complexity.
