Monocryl
Monocryl is the trade name for poliglecaprone 25, a synthetic absorbable monofilament suture used for soft tissue closure in surgery. It is manufactured by Ethicon, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson. The suture is made from poliglecaprone 25, a copolymer of glycolide and epsilon-caprolactone, designed to provide relatively rapid absorption with low tissue reaction.
Monocryl is intended for closures where quick loss of tensile strength is acceptable and rapid absorption
Handling characteristics include smooth tissue passage and low drag, with predictable absorption. Monocryl provides adequate initial
Limitations include higher cost relative to some alternatives and the need for appropriate technique to ensure
Monocryl and related poliglecaprone 25 sutures are widely used in general surgery, plastic and reconstructive procedures,
