Metsäkaribu
Metsäkaribu, also known as the woodland caribou (Rangifer tarandus caribou), is a subspecies of the caribou found in the boreal forests of Canada and, historically, in the northeastern United States. Unlike their more open-ranging counterparts, forest-dwelling caribou are adapted to a life in the taiga. They are generally darker in color and slightly smaller than barren-ground caribou. Their diet primarily consists of lichen, especially during the winter months when they rely heavily on these ground-dwelling plants found in their forest habitat. They also consume leaves, twigs, and moss.
These animals are known for their relatively solitary nature, often found in small groups or even alone,
The conservation status of metsäkaribu is a concern, with several populations listed as endangered or threatened
