Membranäppäimistö

Membranäppäimistö refers to a type of computer keyboard that uses a membrane as the key mechanism. Instead of individual mechanical switches, a membranäppäimistö typically employs a single, flexible circuit board with a membrane layer covering it. This membrane has conductive traces that connect when a key is pressed.

When a key on a membranäppäimistö is pressed, it pushes down on the membrane layer. This action causes a conductive pad beneath the key to contact a corresponding circuit trace on the underlying circuit board. This contact completes an electrical circuit, registering the key press. The keycap itself usually sits above the membrane, and a rubber or silicone dome is often placed underneath to provide tactile feedback and return the key to its original position.

Membranäppäimistöt are known for their relatively low manufacturing cost, making them a popular choice for budget keyboards and many mainstream devices. They are generally quieter than mechanical keyboards and offer a more sealed surface, which can provide some protection against spills and dust.
