Machineinstelling refers to the set of activities involved in configuring and enabling a machine to perform its intended tasks. It encompasses hardware setup, software configuration, parameterization, calibration, and validation to ensure that the machine operates according to product specifications and production requirements. The term is commonly used in Dutch-speaking manufacturing environments and is related to commissioning and qualification processes.

The process typically begins with a clear specification of the production job, including tolerances, tools, feeds and speeds, and safety constraints. It then proceeds to hardware installation or adjustment, software or PLC programming, and the definition of process parameters. After loading the correct programs, tools, and data, operators perform dry runs, verification tests, and functional checks. Calibration and alignment are performed to ensure measurement accuracy, followed by performance validation and documented approval for production start.

Machineinstelling is relevant for CNC machines, robotic cells, packaging lines, 3D printers, and other automated equipment. It requires collaboration among design engineering, manufacturing engineering, software specialists, and quality assurance. Documentation is essential: parameter sets, tool libraries, calibration records, and change logs support traceability and repeatability.

Best practices include defined change control, versioning of configurations, and adherence to safety standards. In regulated environments, commissioning, installation qualification (IQ), operational qualification (OQ), and performance qualification (PQ) may apply.
